Ed Machine is a major antagonist/anti-hero in the first season of the cartoon series Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, the eleventh incarnation of the Scooby-Doo franchise.
He is the corrupt former CEO of Destroido Corp, and the henchman/agent of Mr. E.
He was voiced by Richard McGonagle, who also voiced Chameleon Sr. in OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes, Alley in the Tom and Jerry movie series and Eight-Armed Willy in The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack.
Personality
Ed Machine resembles a stereotypical, insensitive businessman, who care more for the profits and money than actual consumers, as Destroido Corp frequently pollutes the natural environment. However, he is not completely heartless, which was shown when he rescued Shaggy and Scooby from the Freak of the Crystal Cove.
Biography
Ed Machine was first seen freeing Alice May, another operative working for Mr. E, from prison and asked whether their plan had worked. She assured him that it had, after which he escorted her to a limousine waiting to take her out of Crystal Cove. Before her departure, Alice questioned why she had been recruited, but Ed declined to give details, only explaining that Mr. E wanted the mystery surrounding the disappearance of four teenagers solved. He then watched as the limousine drove away.
Later, while the gang was browsing books about vampires at the Broken Spine, Ed quietly handed Daphne a physics textbook with a magazine hidden inside. As tensions within Mystery Incorporated continued to rise, Ed looked on in frustration as Fred, Daphne, and Velma left together, leaving Shaggy and Scooby-Doo behind.
It was revealed that he was the CEO of Destroido and he dismissed Grandma Moonbeam's objections about using landfill waste in her Nature Slivers recipe due to skyrocketing profits. As a result, Ed was attacked by the Cicada Creature with a swarm of cicadas after he disregarded a warning phone call. It happened while he was playing golf, his caddy wanted to leave due to it getting dark, but Ed was loving the game.
He later approached Scooby and the rest of the gang to play them a message that Professor Pericles had sent to Mr. E, at which point Ed revealed that he was one of Mr. E's agents.
Ed Machine later appeared at a press conference to unveil a new Destroido candy called Gummy Dummies. After the event, the gang attempted to get his approval to visit Destroido's abandoned oil rig under the pretense of conducting research. Ed responded by mocking them, warning them about trespassing, and walking away.
He also served as a guard at Mr. E's hidden base, which could be accessed through one of Destroido's waste pipes, and escorted Angel Dynamite there.
Following Mr. E's instructions, Ed kept watch over the gang, intervening only if absolutely necessary.
Eventually, Ed helped save Shaggy and Scooby from the Freak of Crystal Cove and took them to Angel Dynamite at K-Ghoul for protection. After returning home, he discovered Professor Pericles waiting for him. Pericles informed Ed that he wanted him to pass along a message to Ricky Owens and revealed that he knew Ed had assumed the identity of Mr. E. Ed demanded that Pericles speak his message and leave, but Pericles replied that he had nothing to say. As the lights suddenly went out, Pericles moved toward Ed, and Ed’s screams were heard shortly afterward.
